Why Judge at the ORSF?

Becoming a judge at the Ottawa Regional Science Fair is an incredible opportunity to inspire young minds and contribute to the growth of the next generation of innovators. As a judge, you’ll have the privilege of engaging with students who are eager to share their creativity, curiosity, and dedication through their science projects. Your expertise and feedback can provide them with valuable insights that refine their work and ignite their passion for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

Do I need to have a background in science or engineering?

While a background in science or engineering can be helpful, it’s not a requirement. What
matters most is your ability to ask thoughtful questions, listen attentively, and encourage students in their learning journeys. Judging at the fair is a unique and rewarding experience for professionals, academics, and enthusiasts from all walks of life.

What is the time commitment to be a judge?

Most regular judging occurs on Friday, from 11 AM to 4:00 PM. We run an orientation session at 11 AM on Friday, which is required for our regular judges (not special awards and grand awards, as you will be oriented separately). We welcome judges on Saturday morning from 9:00 to 11:30 AM to assist with grand awards and other prize categories if you’re available. Special awards judges are encouraged to attend on Saturday during the same timeframe. We will do our best to assign judging duties within your available times, ensuring your participation fits your schedule while making a meaningful impact on the event.
